Horrible service at Mayer
A couple of months ago, I went looking for a digital camera. I heard through the grapevine that cheap cameras are available at Hidalgo street in Quaipo so I went there. After a few minutes of roaming around I saw a couple of shops selling digital cameras. I started asking for prices and other specs from the different stores. All was fine until I went to this Mayer store.
I went in and started asking around like what I did the past few stores. I asked for prices of those cams on display including their specs. I didn't know then that the person I was asking was the owner of the shop.
After a few questions, I was shocked with how this person rudely answered my question. I asked him what are the other models available and you what answer he gave me? He said "Ganito ang gawin mo, pumunta ka muna sa internet, mag check ka duon ng model, tapos pag nakapili ka na, bumalik ka dito."
I wanted to get angry at that moment but luckily a cooler head prevailed. So i just went to another store and eventually got me a new camera. A new camera for me and no profit for Mayer. All is well that ends well I guess.

baka kasi naka shorts at t-shirt ka lang nung pumunta ka dyan sa tindahan na yan. akala nangungulit ka lang at hindi naman bibili. minsan kasi sinusukat agad tayo sa suot pa lang natin.

Usually photographers go there to look for something they know about to the last detail. It's not a place to ask for specs.
What I usually do, I ask sa malls if I want to know about specs... or the internet for that matter as sales assistants strike me as people who just want to sell. They don't usually know all the technical stuff and all the pros and cons of the gadget they are selling.
Although I feel for you, don't expect too much from Quiapo stores.

As I have posted above, it was only this Mayer store which was like that, all the rest were accommodating at the very least.

Submitted by Olympus on Wed, 06/18/2008 - 18:54.Since my first film SLR camera, I've been going to Hidalgo. Close to two decades na yata. I've even made friends among the camera technicians there who now give me discounted service and even free equipment sometimes.
I first came to know of Mayer from my colleagues in Kodao kasi doon kami bumibili ng mga gamit. For low prices, yes, Mayer is the shop to go to.
In my first ever transaction with Ramon, Mayer's owner, nabastusan na nga ako sa taong ito. He was arrogant. Still is.
Thing is, he does offer the lowest prices for photo and video equipment.
In my years of buying things from Mayer's, some were defective. But it wasn't difficult to have them change the unit.
I've heard that Mayer's items were "creatively imported." Hindi naman ako sure rito. But after checking the internet, one wonders how could they sell so low compared with the other stores, lalo na sa mga malls.
Yes, bastos si Ramon. At he probably thinks he could be bastos because he offers the lowest prices.

Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 07/07/2009 - 15:40.I also had this encouter with Ramon ehre I asked for the price of a canon 450D. I also mentioned that 1 month ago, I purchased a d60 with kit lense. He asked me where did I purchased the unit and I told him sa Avenue. he said, "Kug saakin mo binili yang unit mo na yan, baka na palitan ko pa yan ng Canon 450D. hindi kasi ako kumukuha ng units for upgrade na hindi binili sakin. Mga nakaw kasi yang mga paninda nila Henry and Avenue at ayoko makielam..." Personaly, I dont care about every single word he said. The pain in the butt thing is that He thinks he has the lowest price when it comes to parts and units. where in fact there are farmore cheaper shops around which offers almost same as he's price with a positive factor na "You dont have risks of beinbg mugged"
Some says Ramon is a fine guy but does not have the time to chit chat about specs and some queries of buyers.
The best thing I could agree on is once you will be purchasing somthing from any store, do your homework. Once homework is done, do you canvas with shops in general.
Same rule applies, the cheaper they sell it the better.
Thanks,
Chris

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 01/25/2010 - 13:00.I've been buying there for 7 years now. Whenever I may queries I always ask for his opinion, and I value his opinion whether it be batteries, lenses, speedlights, or DSLR bodies he has always steered my the right way. He is very brash and quite rude but its because of the sheer volume of people at his store. I've done a lot of queries: looking/canvassing even testing come lenses without the intent to buy (that equipment), but maybe because I never walk out of his store empty handed, having bought either batteries, film, tape or other stocks.
